Abstract

This essay critiques the Philippine education system's focus on grades rather than genuine learning. Despite high academic scores, many students lack comprehension, critical thinking, and the ability to apply knowledge in real-life contexts. The current assessment culture emphasizes memorization and performance metrics, sidelining deeper understanding. To improve, the Department of Education should adopt authentic assessments measuring creativity and problem-solving, while teachers embrace interactive, inquiry-based strategies. Parental and community involvement further reinforces meaningful learning. True education fosters critical thinkers and problem solvers, not just high scorers.
